A Branding Shoot for a Local Bakery

Just before packing my bags and moving to Castelldefels, Barcelona, Spain, I had the pleasure of working with a truly special small business: Little Brunette Bakery in Southwell, just north of Nottingham in the UK. I’d been living in this charming town for about a month, and from the moment I stepped into this family-run bakery, I was captivated. Their warm, welcoming atmosphere, clear community focus, gorgeous color palette, and delicious sourdough bread was impossible to resist. This might sound silly, but when I stood at their till and the light shone through the window, I knew I wanted to photograph this place.

Discovering Their Story

When I approached them with the idea of a shoot, I was thrilled to discover that one of the co-owners had studied photography herself and also managed their social media. She had a clear vision for what she wanted: light, bright, soft, and low contrast—images with a gentle pink color palette. This was music to my ears! Many clients aren’t sure yet how they want to visually portray their brand or tell their story, and I love guiding them through that process. If you’re curious about how I can help you develop your brand’s visual identity, feel free to reach out—I’d love to chat.

On the other hand, when a client already has a vision, it’s such an exciting creative challenge for me to bring that vision to life through photography.

Setting the Scene

Before the shoot, I took the time to dive deeper into their online presence and their reputation in the Southwell community. It was clear they weren’t just a bakery—they were a hub for connection, warmth, and joy. Armed with this understanding, I chatted with the owners to learn more about their mission and vision. Their passion for creating a space where everyone feels welcome shone through in every word, and I knew I wanted the photos to reflect that.

On the day of the shoot, I spent a bit over an hour capturing the bakery from every angle. I focused on the details that make Little Brunette Bakery unique: the pastel-colored decor, the lovingly arranged pastries, and the loving staff. My goal with every brand photography session is to ensure the images tell the client’s story in a way that resonates with their audience. For Little Brunette Bakery, that meant conveying their lighthearted, friendly, community-focused vibe.

The Results

In the end, I delivered a gallery of over 120 images, seeing them use the photos immediately on their social media brought me so much joy. Knowing I could support their journey as a small business, even in this small way, was incredibly rewarding.

Now that I’m settling into life in Castelldefels, Barcelona, I carry this experience with me as a reminder of the power of local business photography to tell a story and build community. Whether in Southwell, UK or here in Barcelona, Spain my goal remains the same: to represent clients the way they want to be seen and help them connect with their audience.

If you’re a small business owner in Castelldefels or Barcelona looking to enhance your brand’s online presence, I’d love to work with you. And to my Southwell friends, if you haven’t already, check out Little Brunette Bakery’s website and Instagram (@littlebrunettebakery)—you won’t regret it!
