Moving to a new city as a photographer always comes with a challenge — building connections from scratch. When moving to Castelldefels, just south of Barcelona I knew i wanted to prioritize building a new network and connecting with local businesses, entrepreneurs, and creatives. In photography, relationships are everything. To grow my business in a new place, I have to put myself out there, meet people, and introduce myself to the local community (even if it feels scary at times). Not everyone responds, and not every introduction leads to something, but some do. And that’s how I met Aryanna from Motherest.

Meeting Aryanna & Understanding Her Brand

Aryanna, originally from Boston, moved to the area with her husband two years ago. She was organizing an expat mom meet-up, creating a space for women in similar stages of life to connect.

Even though I’m not a mom, something about her vision really resonated with me. She was building a supportive community for mothers—one focused on self-care, connection, and local collaboration. Through Motherest, she brings women together while also supporting local, women-owned businesses by partnering with yoga studios, cafés, and wellness practitioners.

As soon as we started talking about her business, it was clear that she needed authentic, on-brand photography to represent her vision. And that’s where our branding shoot came in.

How We Made This Branding Shoot Meaningful & On-Brand

A branding shoot isn’t just about taking nice pictures—it’s about telling the story of a business in a way that feels true to its identity. Before Aryanna and I even scheduled the shoot, I made sure we were aligned on her brand’s values, personality, and goals.

Step 1: Understanding Her Vision

A week before the shoot, I sent Aryanna a branding questionnaire. This is a key part of my process. Whether a business is fully established or still evolving, this exercise helps clarify:

Brand identity: What feelings should the images evoke?

Core values: What makes the business unique?

Aesthetic preferences: Light & airy? Bold & vibrant? Minimal & clean?

Strategic use of images: Where will the photos be used—website, social media, press?

Even though Motherest was still in the early stages, clear patterns emerged, helping us shape a visual direction.

Step 2: Building Comfort & Confidence

On the day of the shoot, we spent the first 30 minutes just chatting. We talked about her brand, things that inspire her, and her experience with photography. This wasn’t just small talk—it was about creating trust and making sure she felt comfortable and confident in front of the camera.

Like many of my clients, Aryanna admitted she felt nervous. This is completely normal! My job as a branding photographer is to guide my clients, provide direction, and create an environment where they feel at ease.

✅ I gave clear posing directions and even demonstrated them myself.

✅ I showed previews of the photos throughout the shoot, helping her see how great she looked.

✅ I encouraged natural movement and expressions, making sure the photos felt authentic.

The more we shot, the more relaxed she became, and soon she was fully enjoying the experience.

Step 3: Creating Aligned, Purposeful Images

The shoot lasted a little over an hour, and we captured beautiful images at the beach—soft, natural, and aligned with her brand’s energy.

The result? Photos that felt open, kind, authentic, and approachable—just like Motherest. Images that she could use across her website, social media, and marketing materials to establish her brand and attract the right audience.

Why Branding Photography Matters for Your Business

Your brand imagery is often the first thing people see when they find you online. It should:

📸 Reflect your business’s personality and values

📸 Create a sense of trust and connection with your audience

📸 Be versatile and strategic for marketing, social media, and promotions

For Aryanna, these photos are just the beginning. As her brand grows, she now has a strong visual foundation that represents what Motherest is all about.
